How our carbon removal commitment works
Two funding channels. One goal: permanent removal.
We maintain a fixed commitment of 50% of all purchases to carbon removal via the Stripe Climate Program—shown on our website and at checkout, and not adjustable per product. Donations follow a separate rule: the full amount supports removal, split across the same two channels.
All purchases and subscriptions
50%
Fifty percent of every Acosta AI purchase—plans, top-ups, and any other paid product—goes to permanent carbon removal through Stripe Climate. Stripe distributes these funds across suppliers in Frontier’s portfolio. No additional Foundation allocation applies to standard purchases.
Donations only
When you donate, 100% of your donation funds carbon removal—still honoring our 50% Stripe Climate commitment on that amount, with the Foundation directing the rest.
50%
of every donation
Stripe Climate
Contributed through Stripe Climate—the same channel as all Acosta AI purchases—and distributed across Frontier’s full portfolio of carbon removal suppliers.
50%
of every donation
Transnology Foundation
Directed by the Transnology Foundation to a more select set of permanent removal projects within Frontier’s ecosystem—chosen for long-term impact, not lowest price today.
About the program
Transnology works with Frontier—the advance market commitment behind Stripe Climate—across both funding channels. The 50% on every purchase flows through Stripe Climate into Frontier’s portfolio. The Transnology Foundation also works with Frontier, but directs its share of donations to a more select set of projects within that ecosystem.
That selectivity is intentional. Rather than spread support evenly across every supplier, the Foundation focuses on permanent removal pathways and individual projects where we believe early capital can have the greatest long-term impact—even when they are not the cheapest option today.
Frontier was founded by Stripe, Alphabet, Shopify, Meta, McKinsey, and tens of thousands of businesses using Stripe Climate, with an advance market commitment to buy an initial $1B+ of permanent carbon removal between 2022 and 2030. Frontier sources projects with 60+ external technical reviewers, monitors delivery, and retires tons only after independent verification.
Note on estimations
100% of your funds go towards supporting early stage permanent carbon removal technologies. Importantly, the goal is to catalyse a portfolio of the promising technologies and maximize long-term impact rather than buy the most tons for the cheapest price today. That is especially true of the Transnology Foundation’s share, which is directed to a more select set of Frontier-vetted projects.
Because we are purchasing from early-stage technologies, it typically takes 2–5 years for tons to be delivered. In practice, the total number of tons successfully removed may actually be a little lower based on supplier failures (which are common in nascent fields).
The formula. We estimate future impact from the portfolio’s current weighted average cost per ton ($375 USD):
estimated kg = (contribution in USD ÷ $375) × 1,000 For AUD donations we first convert with an approximate FX rate: contribution USD ≈ amount AUD × AUD→USD estimated kg = (contribution USD ÷ $375) × 1,000
One metric ton = 1,000 kg of CO₂. The $375/ton figure is a portfolio average across Frontier’s offtakes — individual suppliers can cost far more or less today. Frontier aims for a path to under $100/ton at scale; early purchases deliberately pay a premium to pull that cost curve down. Contribution totals update within a few days of a purchase; carbon figures are forward-looking estimates and won’t change in step with contributions. See Stripe Climate and Frontier for programme details.
Our goal. We plan to remove 1,000,000 kg of carbon from the atmosphere by 2040. That is one thousand metric tons of permanent removal, funded by Acosta AI purchases and Foundation donations over the coming years.
